It would be an easier sell if you laid out all the details, how many tourneys, what days they are, Co$t and potential win$, etc. Or did I miss a link you posted that covered this? Can we have substitutes, like 8 guys commit to always having 6 available for the tournaments?

2008-2009 NEFA TEAM CHALLENGE POLICIES

Note: This set of "policies" is meant to be a set of minimum guidlines, deadlines and potential penalties, if guidlines are not met. (Only in the case of dues not being in on time.) These guidlines don't change anything about individual challenges and captains selections. All these guidelines do is set up minimum/max roster sizes, player eligibility (in case of injury), schedule set up, money use and finals location selection and format.

1. COST

a. Cost:

1. Cost per team is $200.00 regardless of roster size.

b. Use of Monies:

1. Finals Location Fees:$100 will be set aside to pay for any potential permits, (ACOE sites) and such that may be acrued. If not used this money will go towards players party.

2. Trophy Maintenance Cost: $25? For the new placard to be put on the trophy for the winning team.

3. Championship Teams Winnings: Winning Team recieves Custom Dri-Fit polo's cost per shirt will be approximately $40 by my estimation. $480, and $200 to the winning team's course fund.

4. Consolation Tourney Winners:$200 Donated to the winning teams course fund. (This is fair, and frankly will help promote the sport. Could help buy one of the up and coming teams a new basket, or tools to help maintain the course.)

5. Players Party: That leaves almost $800 for the players party. Or we can go potluck, and use this money to get everyone whom competes something... Disc? CTP's? Or do we all just want to spend this on Beer and Food. Ill open that for discussion, fire away.

6. Dues Deadline: Sept. 15th. Monies recieved after this date will have dire circumstances, like forfeiting matches. I really don't want to be forced to do that.

Mail Checks to:

Steve Solbo
D2#8 Lydon Lane
Halifax, MA 02338

2. ROSTERS

a. Size

1. Max Size: 12, Min Size: 6

b. Eligibility/Injuries

1. Eligibility: Jason Gordon can't be on Team Buff, haha. I kid. Anyways, anyone can play for anyone, whatever floats your boat. Player must be on roster for 75% of the season, or 4/5 challenges and the player must play atleast 3 rounds during the course of the season, not 3 challenges, 3 rounds, against 3 different teams. (I call this the Daniel Marcus rule. He wont play in the winter around here... but usually by the time finals roll around, he'd be down to play... gotta play in the winter in this league.)

2. Injuries: If a player gets injured, moves or leaves the team for whatever reason, that player can come back when healthy. Team can replace the player that is lost and that player will be able to play in finals, regardless of how long they were on the team. However, if injured player wants/can return, they shall return, replacing the player that replaced them. EDIT: In the case of injuries the player can return once the injury is healed. If the player is otherwise healthy, they can only return to the team based on the vote of remaining team captains. (Captains that want to know the reasoning, PM me.)

EDIT Number 2: Verification of injuries. This can be done one of 2 ways. I want captains to obviously be honest with me and all injuries and roster changes will be submitted to me for approval. Also, injured players returning from injury list will have to remain for the remainder of the season, if they do not, the team will pay a $20 surcharge each time that player is re-instated. (This is new per a discussion with a couple team Captains.)

Example: Team Burgess: Chris Irvine is out a month, if/when he comes back Team Burgess pays $20 for him to come back, or Josh Kent (Reserve) remains for the rest of the season. $20 for each subsequent roster move.

This is to avoid players being rotated from the Reserve list unless they are genuinely hurt. I am not gonna play games with this rule, I dont want a revolving door of players coming in, because certain players can't make a challenge. It's your job as a captain to make sure you have proper numbers for a challenge. If you schedule a 12 on 12 and late in the game someone can't make it, so be it, it's only 11 on 11. Unless you want to replace that person for the season, or pay the fine for them to come back.

Deadline for rosters turned into me: October 1st (Before first challenge).

3. SCHEDULES/REGULAR SEASON/STANDINGS/TIEBREAKER

I hope I have figured this out to please everyone. I think I have...

a. Regular Season Schedule

Regular season schedule will be set up by me, with the help of whomever. I'd ideally like a team of atleast 2 other guys (1 additional top half team member, 1 additional bottom half team member) to assist in this.

1. Teams will play the following schedules. 2 Home Matches, 2 Away Matches, 1 Neutral "4-Team Challenge".

2 Home matches will be determined with the following. 1 match will be played against a team that finished in the top half of finals last year. The other match will be against a team that finished in the bottom half of finals last year.

The same will go for road matches, 1 vs. top half finals opponent, 1 vs. bottom half opponent.

The Neutral challenges will change this year. If we have 8 teams... the Neutral Month challenge will be as follows.

Whatever teams you do not play against head to head, you will have a 4-way match, hopefully this will be easy to schedule. Remember the minimum is 6 and last year we had team challenges where on some weekends all teams played. This challenge will occur at a centrally "Neutral" location agreed upon by all captains involved. If it works out correctly, there should be 2 top half teams and 2 bottom half teams at each. So, balance should be there.

Teams will play a round of singles, then a round of doubles. All stroke play. At the end of the day the final standings will consist of top 6 scores from singles for each team (teams can bring more than 6 AND top 6 scores count) and top 3 doubles teams (again, teams can bring more if they want and top 3 scores will still count.)

Records will be determined by standing at the end of the day.

1st place will have a 3-0 record
2nd place will get a 2-1 for the day, against opponents they beat
3rd place will get credit for 1-2
4th place 0-3...

This hopefully solves the issue of playing everyone, cuse in a sense you WILL have played everyone, just not in match play head to head.

Same course, same conditions, we beat you stroke play, so we won. Simple really.

Questions: PM ME. I am going with this system.

This way, there should be no griping about tiebreakers.

b."Home" Course"

a. Teams can declare up to 3 courses as thier "Home" Course. However, a course listed as a "home" course can not be chosen as finals location by that team in the "Finals Selection" process.

c. Standings/Tiebreakers

1. Standings will be win loss. Will be updated after each challenge.

2. Tiebreaker is head to head in all cases, including those from neutral challenges, seeing as everyone will play everyone.

4. FINALS

This section will provide the selection of finals location. Format and potential caps on no. of players if we have more than 100 golfers, as it will be tough to fit way too many golfers on one course.

a. Finals Location Selection

Location will be determined by captains mailing me 2 courses that finals could be at, if they finish in first place. Those envelopes will stay closed until March, in March we'll open contenders envelopes and list the courses that may be finals location. Realistically this is being done so I can plan finals at a location that potentially would need a permit, etc. Winning team gets to decide locale based on their 2 choices.

b. Finals Format

Finals this year will be split into 2 sections.

All teams will be welcome, all teams will play single stroke play in the first round. Doubles stroke play in the second.

Teams seeded #1-4 will be in the winners or championship bracket, the winning team in this bracket will win the title. Teams seeded #5-8 will not be able to compete for the trophy or title. They will play the same format in the consolation bracket. (The way I see it, you need to earn your keep in the regular season to win the title... that means come in top four.)

All teams will start at 0. No advantage will be given to regular season winner besides picking the location.

Winner of Championship Bracket will win trophy, shirts and potential other prizes. (Money towards home course fund, potentially.)

Winner of the Consolation Bracket will win money to donate to their home course fund, amount to be specified.

*Note: In the event that the league gets bigger, winners bracket could include 5-6 teams. Please post ideas if you disagree.

That is all, you see the deadlines, therefore fire away.

Also, ALL TEAM CAPTAINS PM ME at your soonest convienence with Contact information.

Sincerely,

The Commissioner

about time some regulars responded..... Yes Zip, too late for this season

finding a set of rules for this is nearly impossible......Apparently what I quoted about is not entirely correct.

That's why there's a 12 person roster and only the top 6 scores count.

Everyone interested in the DisCap Team idea should be following the ongoing discussions on the NEFA board. Very interesting reading about how some teams have manipulated/interpreted rules this season.
